GEM – God excites me (Learning Disability ministry)
An informal gathering of adults with a learning disability to learn about and practice their faith through music, art, craft and drama.
A joint initiative with All Nations Christian Centre, St Jude’s hosts GEM a citywide learning disability ministry supported by a number of churches within Wolverhampton and part of Causeway Prospects, a national charity with a passion for people with a learning disability finding faith in Jesus Christ (possible to link? http://www.prospects.org.uk/index.php/causeway_prospects/). Teaching in an accessible format through simplified Bible study and interactive worship, providing understandable and relevant learning with practical and prayerful support.
GEM meets on the third Sunday of every month from 3.00 to 4.30pm, in St Jude’s church hall (at the back of the church). We start with a welcome and time to chat. The meeting is opened with a brief talk on the day’s theme, using the Easy Read Bible, followed by a time of praise (simple songs are sung using a DVD and musicians) and prayer. Everyone is invited to participate in an activity to learn about the day’s theme (usually a craft activity or drama display). The meeting finishes at 4.30pm for those that need to get away, but everyone is invited to stay for tea and biscuits at the end.
